The family doctor and nurse program: a premise of the Cuban Revolution

Photo: Internet.Photo: Internet. Primary health care is a premise of the Cuban Revolution. One of the first established programs was that of the family doctor and nurse, where the community is the most important. This program focuses on the influence of the environment on health, as well as on education actions at community and family level.

Primary health care consists of a set of procedures and services for promotion, prevention, cure and rehabilitation, as well as the protection of specific population groups such as pregnant women, children, adolescents and adults.

Fidel defined these professionals as "eminent clinicians", with the purpose of creating a different doctor and a new specialist to reach new levels of health and greater satisfaction of the population.

Many are the efforts that are made to maintain the quality of these services, which are well received by the people to calm diseases or discomforts that arise in our communities.
