We all miss it when we do not have it. We store it to preserve it. It keeps us alive and enables personal and home hygiene, among other benefits. That's right, we're talking about water. The availability of water in Cuba, due to its island nature, depends on the precipitation behavior. Climate change itself is causing to rain less and less, especially in the Caribbean.
Although rainfalls have increased, we can not forget the intense drought that we have faced since the beginning of this year. This phenomenon caused that meat and milk production plans were not fulfilled, in general, changes in the stability of the economy of San Antonio de los Baños. If we add the difficulties that constantly exist in the territory, (broken engines and water leaks), then you will agree with me that the situation is complex. The shortage of such a vital liquid not only hinders people's lives, but the economic development of the country. Access to this resource is a priority topic on the agenda of governments at the international level. In Cuba, a National Water Policy was approved in 2012, with the objective of making an efficient use of it.
There will be those who express: "It is difficult to save because even if you do it in your house, when you go out you find the water leak on the corner, in the hospital or school bathroom and in state enterprises". But if we do not appeal to everyone's consciousness, much more of this valuable gift of nature will be wasted, which could be used in the economy, especially in agriculture and in essential services of society.
