Fidel Castro, one of the main exponents of international politics of the 20th Century, is undoubtedly the most important figure in Cuban history since José Martí's death, in 1895.
Latin American intellectual Frei Betto defined Fidel as a man of historical importance not only for Latin America, but for the whole world because he had to lead a revolutionary process and make Cuba the only socialist country in the West. The Cuban Revolution, thanks to Fidel's leadership, demonstrated to the world that there is no small people before the United States if they face it with unity and attachment to social justice, independence and national sovereignty. The resistance maintains Cuba as a guide to the rest of the countries.
Recognized as an indefatigable warrior, he continues to mark the path of the Cuban Revolution and the destiny of peoples in favor of human rights such as peace, justice and freedom. He is a giant for his thought, action, audacity and concern, not only for Cuba but for the world. His lessons evoke the great and victorious struggles such as the defeat of Apartheid in Africa. Fidel is a paradigm of ideological firmness and love for his people. Follower of Marti's ideas, he warned the peoples about the arrogance of the empire as mediator of the peoples' destiny.
Fidel will always be in the vanguard. Men like Fidel never withdraw, because his thinking makes him transcend. He defended Cuban independence and dignity, established socialism in the Western Hemisphere, gave the masses the power over their own destiny, and dedicated his entire lives to the prosperity of the country and to the happiness of the people. His valuable feats will shine forever in the heart of the people and of all humanity.
