San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- The territory is getting ready to host the provincial event for the World Blood Donor Day, to be held on June 13, sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR, said Isaac Leyva Marrero, Municipal Coordinator of the CDR in Ariguanabo.
Saving lives is an extraordinary and human act. It is a noble and disinterested gesture that ennobles the donor, who delivers a part of himself without knowing who will benefit. Human blood is not only used as a transfusion, but for the industrial processing of the components necessary for other therapeutic actions.
In San Antonio de los Baños, the call to donate blood voluntarily and free is maintained throughout the year. This allows health institutions to rely on blood and its derivatives either for illnesses, surgeries or accidents. The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution and the Territorial Blood Bank work to fulfill the annual blood-donation plan, aware of the importance of donations as the only guarantee to preserve the life of those who need it. According to Isaac Leyva Marrero, the main volunteer blood donors in San Antonio de los Baños are the agricultural and forestry workers, mainly those belonging to the "Lázaro Peña" Tobacco Enterprise.
''The recognition given to volunteer blood donors will never be enough, to whom we will be eternally grateful for being an example of the best human values", said Leyva Marrero.
