Artemisa Radio: 76th Anniversary

Photo internet.Photo internet. Artemisa Radio Station will be celebrating its 76th anniversary these days. With information about national and international events and a detailed update of what happens in each of the eleven municipalities of the province of Artemisa, the radio station broadcasts "from the land of courage and smile".

On April 1, 1941, the first radio transmitter plant began to operate in the municipality of Artemisa. Identified with the abbreviations CMAX, it went on air with a power of 250 watts. The transmitter was installed in the Maria Josefa estate, on Las Cañas road. Its studios were located in the hardware store '' El Almacén '', at Céspedes Street, No 33, corner to República.

The first radio station aroused the interest of the population. Professional and amateur artists found a space for their realization and local businesses began to be announced. Under the direction of Juan de Dios Carreño and with script by journalist Eloy Cruz, the first news program entitled "We with you" was broadcast. Among the important programs of this first period was "Barahúnda Radial", in which participated amateur artists and the typical orchestra "Bohemia", with the animation of Herdy Yumar and Mario Robaina.

With an ephemeral life, the CMAX gave way to a new station, leased by Juan de Dios Carreño. Its studios were installed at Céspedes Street, No 45, between Peralejo and Masó. On February 28, 1953 the station was sold to Columbio Rodríguez and transferred to Pinar del Río. The radial plant returns to Artemisa on November 14, 1956 with the identification: CMAD 1240 kilocycles, from the roof of the Casino Hispano Cubano. Artemisa's station then had a single continuous and recorded program, called Discomanía. Months later, it had its first live program, a space for the guajiro spot, leased by Rogelio Martínez, "The mockingbird of Las Cañas." With the entry of new workers, the programming and the live animation increased.

In June of 1961 the station passed to the State, under the administration of Mario Robaina. At that time, there were only four workers. Later, a young group was added to it in order to keep the population well informed. In 1964, Artemisa Radio was selected as the best station in the country for the efficient performance of its workers and the quality of its programming.
