Arturo Díaz Álvarez

The young Arturo Díaz Álvarez from San Antonio de los Baños, died in the People's Republic of Angola fulfilling an internationalist mission. Due to his merits, he was appointed by the soldiers of his unit Soldier of Honor . Arturo Díaz Álvarez was born in Marianao on June 12, 1964.

His primary studies were at the Concepción Arenal school in Havana. He later studied at the Sierra Maestra Elementary School in San Antonio de los Baños, resulting a distinguished pioneer. At the age of 17, Arturo joined the ESBEC Santiago Figueroa. Perhaps, inspired by the example of the martyr of his school, he joined military life and graduated as a parachutist. He belonged to the Militias of Territorial Troops. He passed a sapper course at the school of La Paloma, in Matanzas. Upon graduation, he was part of the Special Troops of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

Arturo Díaz Álvarez stood out as squad leader of the Engineer Battalion at the Baracoa Unit. On January 4, 1985, he fulfilled an internationalist mission in the People's Republic of Angola. In African lands he obtained militancy in the Union of Young Communists. With only 20 years, the death surprises him in an ambush. It was March 26, 1985.
