The International Humor Museum, founded on March 17, 1979, the only one specialized in humorism in Cuba, is one of the first in Latin America and the world. It exhibits, preserves and treasures the caricature heritage of Cuba and other parts of the world and at the same time enriches the programming with cultural actions of great impact in the cultural life of San Antonio de los Baños. Ariguanabo is the birthplace of many graphic humorists, including: Eduardo Abela, Manuel Alfonso, Oven Pérez, Francisco Martinez Villamil and René de la Nuez, the latter promoter and father of the museum.
The institution treasures more than 10 000 works from 40 countries, allowing it to show the development of graphic humor in Cuba, from 1848 to the XXI Century. The works are exhibited in the Salons of Personal Caricature Juan David and Humorism and Satire (Humoranga Ariguanabense) and in the International Biennial of Graphic Humor. In the information center of the institution there are collections of magazines and humorous periodicals. The promotion of the work of great masters of the genre inspires the inauguration of personal and collective exhibitions.
The action of workers is tireless in each edition of the Personal Caricature Salon that alternates with the International Biennial of Graphic Humor and the National Salon of Humor and Satire. In each, they pursue the objective of keeping the creators active in their efforts to promote the caricature, thus summoning the juvenile humor salons "El Loquito" and the Nacional Salon José Luis Posada Medio. These alternate with the children's drawing Salons ''We always laugh'' and ''For a better world''.
The Humor Museum safeguards culture with the premise that, from art is defended life, peace, the planet and humanity. Artists join the worldwide demand to defend nature, peace, freedom and even more humanity. From April 2 to April 5, 2017 will be held the International Biennial of Humor. Artists from all over the world may participate in the following categories: General Humor, Political Satire, Humorous Cartoon, Personal Caricature and Photography; inspired by the motto "Peace then I exist". In the works they will be able to pronounce in favor of the peace to construct a world free of conflicts and unnecessary deaths.
