Care program to pregnant women

The policlinics and family doctor offices directly care these cases and from their diagnosis. The public health system has implemented the serology tests every three months to the parents. Evaluations of the virus are made to know the immunological level, in addition to, continuing the treatments with the antiretrovirals.

Yadira Machado, doctor of the Polyclinic José Hipólito Pazos, reported that the care for these pregnant women is guaranteed in the hospitals that have the resources and implements essential for their treatment. The specialist said that after childbirth, breastfeeding is eliminated and replaced by the artificial, along with a process of control to the newborn every three months, until three years of age.

These actions confirm the results that place Cuba as the first country in the world to eliminate HIV transmission from mother to child.
