Back to the root

Ovidio González. Photo: AuthorOvidio González. Photo: Author Back to the root was the singer. He returned through the streets that saw him wake up. They were times of dreams and desires to succeed, as a member of the Amateur Artists Movement. Ovidio González returned for a longed-for encounter with his roots. A meeting with the Yawar Group, old friends of guitar and trova. There was the artist. He returned, yes, he returned to be a child, a teenager, a dreamer. He sang with the magic of the angels and the people chanted his songs.

On horseback he went to the mountain to sing to the mockingbird, the tomeguín or the swallow. He went after the sonar of the guitar and the bongo. Simple, always simple, he strolled through Cuban music and evoked Yolanda. He remembered Silvio, Omara, Pablo, Vicente Feliu, Frank Fernández, Yeny and María Victoria. A musical watercolor. A tour of the cuban music, the one that stood up many people to be danced.

Back to the root, we enjoyed Ovidio and Yawar. Walking with Ovidio’s music through La Placita, La Cueva del Sumidero, the framboys and the melao of the cuban canefield was synonymous with life.

Thank you, Ovidio! Your longed-for encounter was beyond love. Ride, smile, promise a return for San Antonio de los Baños. Then I wait for you as a friend of your music. La Loma del Carrifero, El Paso del Soldado, La Placita o El Círculo de Artesanos are also waiting for you. You will return. You will return to the root and I will be satisfied.
