A deserve tribute A deserve tribute This December 7, the Cuban people pay tribute to the brothers dead on internationalist missions in Africa. San Antonio de los Baños, land of patriots, in a gesture of solidarity with the homeland and with those brave men’s families, ratifies its decision of ‘’Homeland or Death’’.

On December 7, 1989, National Mourning Day, Cuba commemorated the death in combat of Antonio Maceo and his assistant Panchito Gómez Toro, on his 93rd Anniversary. In the country's 169 municipalities, funeral corteges for the internationalist fighters were carried out.

More than 13 years of Cuban solidarity presence in Angola and other countries to help sister nations such as Ethiopia and Nicaragua, as love acts of courage, dedication and solidarity. "The ideas and principles are defended even with our own life," said our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, that December 7, 1989. A day of tribute, pain and respect for those who died defending other countries.

After twenty years of that military operation, Cubans pay tribute to them and remember our leader’s words: "Our victorious troops returned with the shield because the Revolution did not hesitated to risk everything".
