Fidel and sport
How to talk about Cuban sport without mentioning your name, Commander? How to write this chronicle without watching you in basketball, baseball, chess, volleyball, football or underwater fishing?
The sport is you Commander. You are in Alberto Juantorena or Ana Fidelia Quirot, Mireya Luis María Moré or Ruperto Herrera. I evoked your name and I find you beside Javier Sotomayor, Curro Pérez, Santiago "Changa" Mederos, Rogelio García, Braudilio Vinnent or Pedro Luis Lazo.
The sport is you Commander, that's why you're with Driulis González, Legna Verdecia, Sibelis Veranes or Idalis Ortiz. They are fruit of the Sports Revolution like Orlandito Martínez, Adolfo Horta, Teófilo Stevenson, Felix Savón or Roberto Balado, Mayito González, Leinier Domínguez, Roberto Castrillo, Juan Miguel Rodriguez and Alfredo Torres, Mijaín Lopez, Yarisley Silva, Daniel Núñez and Pablo Lara.
Finally Commander, there is your legacy, your teachings, your visits to the sports facilities and your jovial way of talking with the athletes to give them encouragement. That is the undefeated Commander who gave us free baseball, the ALBA Games, the Cuban Sports Olympic, the Latin American Sports School and the Sports Medicine Institute.
Thank you, Commander! You are the people. You are the sport. That is why I write and say proudly, as a revolutionary journalist. I am, Fidel! I am, Fidel! I am, Fidel! Hasta la Victoria Siempre!
