The landing of the Granma Yatch

Granma YatchGranma Yatch Today we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the landing of the Granma Yacht. From Mexico to Tuxpan came 82 expeditionaries led by Fidel Castro, with the ideal of "Being free or martyrs". Truth, justice and yearnings of freedom guided the bow to achieve the Cuban national independence. The ties of our history of struggle are interwoven thanks to the contribution of Mexican friends.

On November 25th, 1956, the expedition sailed from the Gulf of Mexico towards Cuban waters to continue the struggle for the sovereignty of Cuba. The arrival to "La Coloradas" beach in the municipality of Niquero on December 2, marked the beginning of the guerrilla fights that would culminate with the triumph of the Revolution on January 1st, 1959.

Fidel Castro led the expedition, which included Ernesto Che Guevara, Raúl Castro, Camilo Cienfuegos, Juan Almeida, Ramiro Valdés and other fighters, men who fused their lives in the effort to combat and overthrow the tyrant Fulgencio Batista.

The July 26 movement germinated and allowed the birth of the Rebel Army, which continued the armed struggle for the definitive achievement of the revolutionary triumph on January 1st, 1959.
