Urban Suburban and Family Agriculture
The Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture is a strong agricultural movement that takes place in the cities and rural areas. It has its own characteristics, that differentiate it from the conventional agricultura, for example its diversity and the number of social actors involved in its development.
It is a vital alternative, an effective solution to increase the availability of agricultural products. In San Antonio de los Baños interesting results have been obtained in this area, since it guarantees a greater production of fresh and healthy foods. Orchards, semi-protected organic urban farms, family pots are some of the ways to deliver fruits, condiments, medicinal plants and various crops to different points of sale for people’s consumption. In different tours of the National Group of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture has been found that not all is given equal priority.
In these visits priority is given to the attention given by these productive forms to Public Health and Education centers. This link can not be broken, since they supply vegetables mainly to people that require a healthy diet: children, pregnant women and old adults. On the other hand, it was emphasized the need to maintain staggered planting in Ariguanabo’s semi-protected areas. It was highlighted "La cubana" Minindustry, which has well deserved the category of national excellence.
All this shows the joint work of producers and leaders of the sector. Continuing to strengthen these programs should be a priority for this territory taking into account the multiple benefits for families and the access and quality of the food.
