Political satire
Humor will accompany reflection at the 20th International Graphic Humor Biennial, Cuba 2017, to be held in San Antonio de los Baños (Humor Villa) and Havana between April 2 and 5, next year. The Circle of Humorists and Historietistas of the Cuba’s Union of Journalists, Artemisa’s Provincial Direction of Culture and San Antonio de los Baños’ Humor Museum call graphic humorists from Cuba and other countries of the world to compete with a caricature on free subject and original or digitally processed works that classify in the genres of general humor, political satire, humorous or personal caricature and humorous photography.
This edition will he held with the motto: "Peace ... then I am" and the poster lithograph by the Cuban caricaturist Arístides Hernández (Ares), as the visual image of the event. The competition will be presided by an international jury of prestigious artists of the genre, including the American John Lent, the Portuguese Cristina Sampaio, and Orlando Morales from Colombia, according to Isel Chacón Díaz, Director of the Museum. She added that the national jury predicts the participation of the Cuba’s Hero and eminent caricaturist Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, as well as the creator Carlos David Fuentes (Charley).
A space to advocate for peace and defend the universal caricature art will become the biennial which programs a theoretical workshop on the successes, errors and challenges of the previous editions of the contest. In addition to the opening and awards of the International Graphic Humor Salon, there will be collateral exhibitions at the Provincial Visual Arts Center ‘’Eduardo Abela’’ in San Antonio de los Baños as well as in Habana Vieja and Vedado. Likewise, the Biennial will distinguish the work of the former director of ‘’El Pitirre’’ and author of the figure: Sabino, - the outstanding Cuban caricaturist Rafael Fornés Collado.
With the maximum of perfecting the quality of graphic humor, based on the traditions of the genre, we invite - from art - to defend peace as a proposal of union to build a better world, which is possible.
