Grandparents
San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- In this municipality the old adult is included within the priorities of the health, education, culture and sports directions. According to Yamilé Borrego, Head of medical services at the Municipal Health Direction, the care of the old people from the family doctor’ clinics includes talks, conversations, home visits and proposals for correct eating habits and healthy lifestyles. The specialist adds that they also coordinate activities with the entities mentioned above, for the incorporation of physical exercises within lifestyles.
Yamilé points out that grandparents' circles contribute to raise the quality of life of the old people as they reintegrate into active life and visit cultural institutions such as the Ariguanabo’s Bosque Martiano. Recently they celebrated World Alzheimer's Day .The head of medical services points out that handicraft contests are carried out at the grandparents' house and they enjoy different activities performed by the territory’s amateur artists.
Their incorporation into the old adult chair facilitates the exchange on subjects of interest for them and prolongs the useful life of these people as sources of accumulated experience.
