Cuban baseball
During the organization of the ‘’Juego de las estrellas’’ in Matanzas, I could see, thanks to the journalist Aurelio Prieto Alemán, an interview with Heriberto Suárez, President of the Cuban Baseball Federation, who stated that wild-card games for classified teams five and six proved to be a success with this new structure. I am not in favor of this statement as only ‘’Isla de la Juventud’’ and ‘’Holguin’’ have had resurged but are not glimpsing teams. ‘’Camagüey’’ and ‘’Las Tunas’’ do not offer such immense desire to fill stadiums.
The current National Baseball Series has its flaws and that is one of them. If we know that baseball in Cuba is suffering its worst crisis, a wild-card series will not change its health. Nothing fits the wild-card series. Four or six teams, the rest has no activity until the next series. I believe that the structure of the Cuban baseball has to change again, but not with a wild-card series. The stadiums filled up; that means Cubans still like baseball, despite the poor quality of our series.
I hope you think of a better structure for next year, I repeat, having a wild-card series that does not fit anything. It shows a quality that does not exist, it is just a struggle for qualifying. Nothing else. At least that's my opinion.
