Yearning for conga?, I mean, for home run

Lázaro JuncoLázaro Junco Echoes of the Star Game of the Cuban baseball are still heard. We speak of the two meetings and the emotions experienced after enjoying our past glories at the stadium ‘’Victoria de Giron’’ in Matanzas. I will refer to one of them: ‘’Derby of home runs’’

The so-called ‘’Derby of home runs’’ was disappointing for baseball-lovers. Without detracting the current participants, it is difficult to accept a ‘’Dervy of home runs’’, in which compete the representatives of Mayabeque Michael Gonzalez and Denis Laza, with Yurisbel Glacial, Yeniet Pérez, Luis Robert Moirán and Rafael Viñales. The winner with just six home runs, even some have only three. What did organizers take into account for the selection of competitors in this Derby?

If the santiaguero group "Sur Caribe" was yearning for the conga, I am yearning for the home run. Goodbye to dreams, said a baseball fan. Where are Pedro José Rodríguez, Antonio Muñoz, Orestes Kindelán, Lázaro Junco or Romelio Martínez?, he asked. Dear reader, I honestly confess; if there are no men capable of defending the home run in today's baseball, it would be better to dispense with it in a Star Game. A passion for baseball can not blind those who have the mission to rule the destinies of Cuba's national pastime.

We must be critical and reflective to help understand a reality that is very clear and palpable. Sluggers are over in Cuba! That's my opinion and that of many fans. That's the truth.
