Example of resistance
During the last years of Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship, terror took possession of the country. In Bauta, an underground fighter was captured and tortured to death. His executioners could not wrest a single word. Today we will talk about Rigoberto Díaz Milián, example of resistance.
In jail, Rigoberto Díaz Milián and Ariel Lima lived together. The latter had become a sneak of the henchman Esteban Ventura Novo. During a trip to Havana, Lima and Rigoberto met on the way and the traitor arrested the fighter. The first punch Milián received left him breathless. During the time Rigoberto was under arrest, he suffered all kinds of torture.
"Here the toughest men speak". Expressions like this were recurrent in the prisons of the dictatorship and stories of resistance, too. He was transferred from Bauta to the dreaded ‘’Quinta Estación’’. One day they left him alone, his body was purple. The wife burst into tears when she saw him. His white guayabera was a red cloth with pieces of rotten skin. The courage of underground men, as the bautense Rigoberto Díaz Milián, are examples of the resistance of Cubans.
