Encourage planting medicinal plants

Medicinal plantsMedicinal plants San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- Urban and Suburban Agriculture Movement promotes alternatives to plant medicinal plants in the locality in various forms of development: farms, intensive orchards, organopónicos and family courtyards with the objective to maintain medicinal and ornamental plants and food production, as an important support to feeding, conservation of biodiversity as well as the strengthening of traditions and local agriculture.

They are working to fulfill the plan led by the National Group of Urban Agriculture, outlined Yaima Hernández Director of the Enterprise ‘’Urban Farm’’, in San Antonio de los Baños. She also stated that the program of urban agriculture includes planting medicinal plants within the development of 28 sub-programs linked to the Movement.

It is very important the farm of Fidel Muñoz Hernández in compliance with the planting of one hectare of species such as marjoran, passionflower, mint and curcuma. Yaima Hernádez insists that curcuma is also a medicinal plant for its anti-inflammatory properties, its antioxidant power and other important qualities.
