Granma yachtGranma yacht After the failure of the assault on Moncada Barracks on July 26th, 1953, Fidel Castro and some survivors were sentenced to several years in prison. However, they were amnestied after twenty-two months due to his family’s effort and people’s pressure.

Fidel Castro went to Mexico where an expedition to Cuba was prepared in order to start an armed insurrection against Batista’s dictatorship. It was the morning of November 25th, 1956, the Granma yacht began sailing stealthily through the waters of Tuxpan river in Mexico. There were 82 brave men who had the firm conviction of being free or martyrs.

With the strength that characterizes Cubans, our glorious national anthem was heard in the silence of that cold night. Long rainny and cold days accompanied the yacht. On December 2th, they got to the Cuba’s coast to restart the armed struggle in ‘’Sierra Maestra’’, under the leadership of Fidel Castro. This feat marked forever Cubans’ lives. Today Granma yacht remains at the Museum of the Revolution and its legend is considered one of the great feats of the homeland’s history.
