Cuban Culture Day

This October 20th we are celebrating the Cuban Culture Day, event that definitely marks the birth of a rebel nation and its identity. This date was instituted in commemoration of one of the most important events that holds the country's history: the intonation for the first time of the Cuban National Anthem, ‘’La Bayamesa’’. So, Cuba had its national anthem. The lawyer Pedro Figueredo, ‘’Perucho’’, would be the author of the verses that today cubans sing respectfully.

This event marked forever the lives of cubans in ‘’La Demajagua’’. On October 10th, 1968 the bells of freedom ringed and amid the taking of Bayamo by the rebel troops of the Liberation Army of the Republic of Cuba in Arms, the city preferred to be burned rather than belonged to the spanish. That ring extolled the feeling of freedom that still guides the cubans through the anthem of war and victory sung by all who attended that sublime moment.

Perucho Figueredo, patriot set out to write "Nuestra Marsellesa", anthem that made history in France. It was so from that October 20th, 1868, the fervent notes of the Bayamo Anthem presided all acts of the cuban independence movement. That is why October 20th is considered as the Day of Cuban Culture. The essence of the cuban roots is recognized and the value of men who regardless of fortunes or welfare paid tribute to the grateful country.
