Cuban farmers
The economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed on Cuba by the United States of America (USA) for more than half a century, it is causing effects on the availability of food, milking means and other inputs needed for beef cattle. This is an example of how this measure applied to our country, has affected an essential row for the production of milk and meat mainly, so damages threaten food stability and welfare of the population.
These deficiencies require that the offsprings remain with their mothers for a long time, which negatively affects milk production. However, other alternatives are guaranteed to feed the cattle. For example, in San Antonio de los Baños planting sugarcane, kingrás and other products is encouraged by the efforts of farmers. Nationally, the nutrients used for calves are purchased in distant nations at high prices as it is impossible to buy them in the USA.
As a result of the genocidal policy of the US government, Cuba is limited to establish the mechanical milking on all livestock farms, because it is very expensive, so we must go to other latitudes to buy them at excessive prices. Difficulties in nutrition of cows and lack of resources in the proper management of herds affect the good performance of artificial insemination.
The cuban people has learned to get ahead in every field and production line, even though we have lived for over half a century under the constraints caused by the economic, commercial and financial embargo.
