If so, what happens then with the new generations? We will try to answer these questions, we will focus our responses to family, the most important when it is about saving energy.
Cubans that lived in the 90s save more
Between 1990 and 1993, following the collapse of the socialist bloc and the economic crisis that the country began to suffer, the availability of electricity decreased from 78% to 50 %, which resulted in prolonged blackouts, so electricity consumption decreased by more than 6% as annual average. Therefore, in November, 1997, the Electricity Saving Program (PAEC) was created in Cuba.
PAEC objectives:
1- Ensure that annual growth of the demand is lower than the gross energy and that this one grows less than the gross domestic product.
2- Develop habits and customs for the Rational Use of Energy and Environmental Care in the new generations.
"Energy we save today, brightness for tomorrow " my grandmother Minerva said. Cuban families have created a habit of saving. The media have helped shape the public awareness to contribute to the country's economy.
And new generations?
New generations and families consume more electricity. More domestic equipment and energy flexibility become families high consumers. It does not directly indicate that in many cases there is an equal or a greater awareness than years ago. There are programs and public good messages aimed at promoting saving culture. The price of oil and the difficulties in establishing alternative means of power generation put up the price of this process and require high levels of savings. Families are the foundation of society and must assume their rightful role in this regard. Saving is undoubtedly an effective way to contribute to reach the living standards we want. Here, as in other areas, our contribution matters.
