Rubén Suárez Quidiello in ''Vereda Nueva''

Rubén Suárez QuidielloRubén Suárez QuidielloIt was April 13th, 1940, Vereda Nueva. Organized by the Fine Arts in Havana, a painting exhibition opened with the words of the spanish intellectual Ramón Fernández Matos. In his catalog there were included thirty five paintings by renowned cuban artists: Antonio Rodriguez Morey, Esteban Valderrama, Domingo Ramos Enríquez, Roberto Diago Querol and Rubén Suárez Quidiello, among others.

His oilpaintings, pastels, etchings, drawings and watercolors adorned the main salon of the Society of Instruction and Recreation ‘’José Martí’’. Ruben Suarez Quidiello was born in San Antonio de los Baños, on August 23rd, 1915. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts ‘’San Alejandro’’. He was awarded the National Prize for Painting in 1953, with the artwork ‘’Plaza del Río’’, and the Special Mention of the Golden Salon of Culture in Havana.

Member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the International Association of Plastic Art of the UNESCO. He was awarded the Distinction for National Culture in 1982. His pictorial series ‘’Reflejos’’ is a faithful witness of the daily life of ariguanabenses. It collects sites, architecture, landscapes and people of his native village. He died on August 2nd, 1990.
