Ariguanabo Radio
A group of Ariguanabenses with their own efforts built a rustic equipment for Ariguanabo Radio, ‘’The voice where there is a river’’; blessed initiative! On October 8th, 1971, we heard for the first time: "Here, Ariguanabo Radio, making the first tests on the air." From then until 1974 - the date when the network became part of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT)-, the broadcasting was operated by amateurs who voluntarily alternated these tasks with other social responsibilities.
The original programming was basically musical, afterward other areas were incorporated to spread historical dates, festivals, carnivals, regional baseball championships, and other political, cultural, sports and social activities of San Antonio de los Baños. Some of the first programs of Radio Ariguanabo are “Caravana Musical”, “Nosotros y la noche”, “El Pionerito”, “Cinta 38” anf “Con ustedes Tejedor”. Prestigious partners integrated the first labor payroll of that station: Martha Martinez as Director; Magaly Perez as Assistant Director; Elisa Franchi- Alfaro Viera and Freddy Diaz as reporters; the announcers Arelys Mayda Gonzalez and Maria Jimenez; the record librarian Idania Diaz, and Josefina Dominguez as audio technician.
Since 1976 the transmission of Radio Ariguanabo has spread to other municipalities such as Bauta, Guira de Melena, Quivicán, Caimito among others by 105.3 or 107.5 FM. The station transmits 18 hours. The programming is designed to please the most demanding tastes: children, women, family, youth, peasants, and population in general. The events of the municipality transcends the border of the province and the nation by the internet website: www.ariguanaboradioweb.icrt.cu
The local radio station Ariguanabo Radio has treasured for 45 years, a great record of awards at festivals, contests and journalistic or artistic events, but undoubtedly has the highest tribute: the recognition and preference of listeners.
