Reforestation is a priority

According to Anaisa Cardenas Morales, Head of the State Forestry Service in San Antonio de los Baños, our municipality shows a large potential in the forestry sector (246 percent of overachievement). Among the entities projecting the best results are: State Forestry Enterprise, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) and cooperative and agricultural sectors.

A valid element to highlight is the 85 percent of achievement and survival of new plantations. This figure demonstrates the quality, dedication and professionalism with which this task is assumed by the territory. The other 15 percent goes into the period for the replenishment of faults, also included in the annual reforestation plan. More than 10 species are prioritized: majagua, acacia, yaruba, carob and eucaliptus, mango, guava and tamarind and avocado. States Cardenas Morales that cedar was also planted, although to a lesser extent. Among the priority areas in San Antonio de los Baños during 2016 are included: the forestry farm ‘’El Campismo’’, roads: "La Salud’’ and ‘’Autopista’’. ‘’La Base Aerea’’ has also obtained positive results.

A good news for environmentalists and residents of this municipality is the forecast of 2017: the reforestation plans expect to reach the entire heart of the Ariguanabo basin where there are still a few hectares to reforest, according to the specialists. This is the panorama of the reforestation in the territory today. Everyone expects the arrival of the new year, because planting protects and strengthens the soil.
