Ariguanabo Radio
October 8th, 1971. The efforts of a group, led by Rigoberto Blanco, Domingo García and Carmelo de Armas, were not in vain. From a seat of the Municipal Party Committee of San Antonio de los Baños, Ariguanabo Radio was on the air for the first time.
Today, we remember the history of this station. In the beginning, Ariguanabo Radio had few resources, a small plant of about 8 Watts, built by Domingo García, an audio console that was invented by Carmelo de Armas, a home recorder and a microphone Philips, owned by a workplace, it was all the equipment available to them. The programming of the station was essentially musical. Transmissions began at 8 am until 11 pm. Due to lack of staff, the schedule was reduced to 9 hours a day, except Sundays when the coverage was greater.
The commemoration of historical dates and the highlighting of political, cultural and sports activities in the region were enriched by Ariguanabo Radio. Using the remote control, the station transmitted acts from primary schools, festivals of amateur artists, carnival and some baseball championships. Those first critical years were esencial for the further development of the radio station through which it is heard the voice of where there is a river.
