Missael Acosta: Excellent brush and pen

The visual arts in San Antonio de los Baños keep the tradition alive, the continuity of the legacy distinguishes us in Cuba. Missael Acosta is one of the young people who recreated through images the natural and social environment and contributes to renew the space of all. Graduated from San Alejandro in 2005, he works as a freelance artist and as collaborator of Poetry Festival of Havana.

With attachment to literature and the visual arts, how does it materialize in your productions?

With my participation in group exhibitions, including the 2nd Erotic Exhibition within the program of the Ariguanabense Culture Week at the Museum of Humor, in the Event ‘’Landscapes, Reflections of a City’’, edition 2016 and the Project ‘’Painters of Gallery Square Victor Manuel Havana’’. I am part of the selection of poets of the new millennium, a compilation by Roberto Manzano.

What is creation for you?

It is a necessity to transform reality where the creator, the man at the same time evades and dreams, but always from the own reality.

How do you reveal this need as a poet and painter?

I translate it through genders or nuances of art or creative act, they are the means. Somehow there is no work if there is not a spectator. A bridge between the two is established which functions as a mirror and continues the creative process that is infinite. There are things that I paint in verse and others that I write painting.

Who do you think has influenced your work?

The greatest influence is life, it is my store to create. In plastic, the legacy of the impressionists marked me: Monet, Picasso, Van Goth, Pollock and Samuel Feijóo in literature, among others.

You take San Antonio de los Baños as a reference in your creations, why?

I paint my Ariguanabo and I think that chaos has its own beauty in art. Ariguanabense artists continue to defend the roots, identifying symbols. Although the structure is damaged, the spirit is intact; it lives and suffers.

Do you keep active?

I participated in the 10th Ilustrated Décima Festival ‘’Nora Lloró’’ held at the Culture House and I was awarded a prize for the illustration of the work by the poet Mercedes Valdes. The 40th edition of the ariguanabense Culture Week called for the Landscape Meeting ‘’Francisco Martinez Villamil’’, another day to paint a space of my town and leave the critical vision and the reflection of it and I'll be there.
