People's Council, the voice of the Revolution

People's CouncilPeople's Council People’s Power in Cuba is perfecting. The program includes all actors in the exercise of power and covers the Popular Councils, the delegate and members of the community. To know about the East Urban Council's work, Dessié Pérez Valdés, President of the council was interviewed.

What actions marked your beginnings?

First of all, I am the delegate of the 41st Constituency. The characterization and diagnosis of the main problems of the voters are the starting point for daily duty. Tasks are designed to investigate each of the situations to provide objective responses. The council is composed of 12 districts, workplaces, primary schools, kindergartens and Las Yagrumas Hotel. The route allows us the control and supervision of community life, both in the residential and state sector.

The delegate and the chairman of the board form a harmonious relationship, what do you think?

There must be cohesion as it is established by Law 91 of the People's Councils within the powers and functions of both. Every member must know voters’ concerns, needs and problems; contact with the neighborhood, administrative entities and service units. It is also necessary to know dissatisfactions and complaints to be informed and prepared, so that we can always provide the right answer.

What does it mean for the President of the Council to represent the local organ of People's Power?

It means a high commitment and a social responsibility to believe in the exercise of the people’s power, so we must be responsive and serious at work.

What weighs more in your daily work, satisfaction or dissatisfaction?

I like what I do despite the setbacks as I am pleased to have the opportunity to transform. We have to work harder to educate the people, involve it in committees and contribute to solve problems through different initiatives.
