LibrariesArmando Hart repeated: ''the goal of education is culture''. The school is the womb of all thought and advancement of society. Human history has proven that library is the most important cultural institution of the country and the community and it is the oxygen of schools’ lungs.
Currently, many school libraries are going through a deep depression: inadequate places and furniture, outdated library collections, broken books. I do not refer to texts and notebooks for consultation of students and teachers. That literature has nothing to do with school libraries. I refer to a volume containing valuable and enjoyable readings that contribute decisively to shape the thinking and feeling of a useful and good human being - "in the good sense of the word good," as said the poet Antonio Machado.
Our children and adolescents are eager to know stories, adventures, curiosities, first love poems, exciting novels, stories of Nature, mysteries of man and the universe and extraordinary episodes of the people ... Opening doors to those worlds, it is the dazzling magic of a librarian in love with this work.
Schools’ lungs must get oxygen, renew, aerate, -with the necessary attention of the Ministry of Education (MINED), and with donations from the community, that is to say, valuable books. With the arrival of this new course, let us share with our children the books that made us well for them to multiply in others.
