San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- Concerning the International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) in this town performs actions that contribute to the care and conservation of this protective shield of the ultraviolet radiation coming from the sun.
Osvaldo Pino, CITMA Specialist at the Council of Administration points out that according to the characterization and diagnosis of the municipality, it is maintained the control of gas emissions into the atmosphere. Such is the case of the steam boiler of ‘’El Matadero de Aves’’ and ‘’Las Yagrumas’’ Hotel, entities to which an inspection is applied every three months to check the use of measuring equipment. ‘’Las Yagrumas’’ managed to reduce the emission of gases with the addition of solar heaters. Also, they make visits to workplaces to require the changing of equipment by new technologies that do not emit harmful gases.
About the International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, joint activities are coordinated with the Directions of Culture and Sport such as workshops, events and competitions that deal with environmental issues. Pino states that cuban environmental policy is carried out in Ariguanabo in order to contribute to economic and social development on sustainable basis, something that still requires a greater awareness and responsibility.
