First Declaration of Havana: popular responses for the fate of America

With attachment to the history, its pages are lessons of patriotism and unwavering heroism; so it is reminisced September 3rd, 1960. It refers to the response of Cuba, as rejection against the maneuvers of the United States and the Organization of American States (OAS) in San José, Costa Rica; the First Declaration of Havana, a document with a transcendent value.

It proclaimed the right and duty of the peoples to eradicate, once and forever, the power of the imperialism and the oligarchy. The text is not a dead letter. It denounced the aggressive aircraft of the US government against the Cuban Revolution. Just in 2016, it maintains transparency and it is for every citizen the starting point in combat. It ratifies the decision of the cuban people to work and fight for the common destiny of Latin America.

On September 2th, 1960 the people gathered at the already historic ‘’Plaza de la Revolución’’ to respond to the Statement of San José. The document was sponsored by the United States against Cuba and was approved on August 29th, 1960. There, the foreign ministers of Latin American or Governors met in order to achieve a document stating that Cuba represented a danger for the hemisphere. The strong response of the people in 1962 is reaffirmed in the 56th anniversary of the Will of National Self-Determination in defense of our sovereignty, and today gives all the dignity of the fraternal peoples of the continent.
