Integrated producers into local development programs

San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- Producers of different cooperatives are integrated into local development programs related to the agricultural sector in Ariguanabo.

In the case of Local Agricultural Innovation Program (PIAL), producers receive training and then take their knowledge to the farms. Innovation is promoted as a method to save resources and maintain stability in the productions. One result of this program is the conservation of seeds. It has also achieved an increase in the diversity of grains, with emphasis on beans, soybeans, corn, rice and chickpea, and the production of roots and tubers, fruit, flowers and spices.

Another program in which farmers are immersed is the integrated development of livestock, proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture. To improve milk and beef production training is strengthened every year. Links with associations such as Agricultural and Forestry Technicians (ACTAF) and Cuban Animal Production (ACPA) are encouraged to improve conditions in the UBPCs and to harvest the food necessary to strengthen the livestock.
