Vidal Morales y Morales: Judge in San Antonio

Vidal Morales studied Jurisprudence at the University of Havana. He was the Founder Secretary of the Law School. With proverbial modesty, he prefered to stand out the merits of others rather than his own.

As a result of his bibliographic endeavor these texts came to light: ‘’Posthumous Collection of Papers on Cuba’’ and ‘’General History of Slavery’’, written by Jose Antonio Saco López, and the novel ‘’Francisco’’ by Anselmo Suárez Romero. Vidal was an enthusiastic bibliographer who gathered national and historic publications and collaborated with many newspapers and magazines of his time. With the establishment of the Republic, he was appointed Head of the Record Office of Cuba.

Author of cardinal texts of the cuban historiography as ‘’Initiators and First Martyrs of the Cuban Revolution’’, and ‘’Notions of Cuba's History for schools’’. Vidal Morales y Morales served as First Judge in several cities of Cuba and in San Antonio de los Baños between 1892 and 1895. The National Library ‘’José Martí’’ treasures lots of data, papers and unpublished documents bequeathed by him. Morales, considered one of the most prominent cuban historians, was also memorable in Ariguanabo.
