The number of self-employed workers affiliated to CTC increases

 

TransportTransport San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- The Workers' Union of Cuba in this territory has 49 union sections which group self-employed workers. At the end of July the figure increased to 1352, taking into account that there were 1323 in January.

Sandra León, Secretary of the trade union in the municipality explained that the organization works in coordination with the Department of Labor, the National Tax Administration Office ONAT, inspectors of the territory and the National Revolutionary Police to train affiliated workers.

She adds that 1740 are affiliated. Sandra says: ‘’the trade union is the largest, represented by 82 percent. There are only 400 self-employed left to be affiliated; builders, drivers, agricultural workers and hired staff’’.

The General Secretary states that a union committee is constituted if 25 or more workers are grouped, but if there are 9 workers, then a delegate is selected to be advised by the CTC. Also they meet every three months to learn about the work done by members of the organization.
