San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- The need for planting trees and developing actions to recover some deforested areas in Ariguanabo Watershed is part of the strategy of the Basic Enterprise Unit (BEU) of Forestry and the Agriculture Delegation in our town.
The goal throughout the year is to contribute to environmental care, so states Juan Ortega Fleitas, Forestry Specialist in the BEU of the territory, belonging to Costa-Sur Enterprise, located in the ecosystem of Ariguanabo River. He explains that the Watershed is of national interest. In this regard the commitment to increase the forest area responds to combating desertification and to minimize environmental problems and in particular to protect the groundwater and soils.
The specialist insists that they maintain control of plantations, evaluate areas and proceed to the reconstruction of the forest, clean place for planting endemic plants and others with economic value. He notes that they plan to complete the planting of 5 hectares at the end of the year and are awaiting the optimum quality of the posture of species such as guásima, baría, ocuje, acacia, hibiscus, mahogany and cedar, among others. Ortega Fleitas indicates that reforestation must be part of the interest of the community. We must all intervene. Humanity's life and planet's health depend on it.
