RADIOAMATEURS
The participation of radio amateurs in emergencies helps to maintain communication. Incidentally we interviewed Dubal Pérez Rodríguez, Vice President of the Radio Club in Ariguanabo.
Why did you join the association?
During the period of militay active service I was at the communication squad. I was interested in the use of Morse code, teletype radio and the movement of the voice through space waves. I knew that there was an amateurs radio club and I joined it, so I got the approval as an associate 10 years ago.
How many members does the ariguanabense association have?
Our association has the Board of Directors CO9C qq frequency of 144,980, with a staff of 32 active members. Even though there are no physical links with domestic and foreign people, we have affable relations .
How do radio amateurs develop activities in the Village?
Our organization has a social character and it is a non-governmental association with national scope. We are affiliated to the Radio Amateurs Federation of Cuba and subordinated to the province. We carry out activities from different instances, considering the most important anniversaries. Every six months we take stock of the achievements and projections and announce the addition of new members.
What activities have you supported?
We were present at the caravan during the visit of Pope Francisco to Cuba, in Popular Exercise Bastion Moncada, on Defense Days and allegorical activities for the 50th anniversary of our organization, with radio broadcasts on January 28th and January 1st.
Do you remember any special contribution of the Ariguanabense radio amateurs?
Of course, thanks to the communicative possibilities we contactt with people all over the country and from other nations. This allows us to exchange ideas and knowledge about Cuban reality and in particular the ariguanabense socio-cultural life. For example, during the incident in the Telecommunications Enterprise ETECSA, where the telephone plant burned, we maintained communications with organizations and institutions of the territory, especially the services of the hospital and the funeral home.
