AEDESMOSQUITO
San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- This municipality is involved in preventing mosquito Aedes Aegypti. This is a Culicoides mosquito that can carry dengue virus, yellow fever, and other diseases such as chikungunya fever and Zika. According to the World Health Organization, this species of mosquito causes 50 million infections and 25,000 deaths per year. The Aedes aegypti can feed on at any time and it often bites at dawn and dusk. The best sites where they can reproduce are those where there is stagnant and clean water, discovered and abandoned containers, discarded tires and water sinks yards. Thus, the need to maintain sanitary hygienic measures to prevent the spread of vector.
In San Antonio de los Baños all preventive work is done to prevent this dangerous vector. The mass media undertake the task to educate the public and prepare them for the familiar auto focal to eradicate this vector. The Humor Village brigades have the task of ensuring that in every neighborhood there are no larvae or mosquitoes. Similarly they develop an adulticide spraying treatment using TF34 and Puls fog known as bazooka and the motomochila. Insecticides used are Gal gotrin and Cipericon in order to eliminate the adult mosquito.
A campaign will be carried out every seven days. These groups will be formed by a member of public health and two colleagues from the FAR which support the campaign. The Cuban government invests substantial sums in the fight, that’s why it should be supported by everyone to eradicate this dangerous vector.
