Zero indicator of maternal - infant mortality is a challenge that assumes the team of Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI) in Public Health, from which San Antonio de los Baños is not exempt.
There are remarkable actions that enable the results, including the improvement of pregnant women care, especially those which constitute a risk factor. When it is necessary they are entered in their own homes or in the Maternal Home which is covered with 13 capabilities. In addition the rate of prematurity, low birth weight, as well as accidents at home are controlled.
One of the main diseases with which special care is taken is hypertension during pregnancy. Family doctor and nurse clinics play a leading role through the Child Care and the visits made by professionals of the health sector.
I believe that while this personnel plays an important role within this program in Cuba, also the family has its role as the mother herself, responsible for her welfare and that of her baby.
Through the Department of Health Care in the territory we knew the results of the PAMI, that is a pleasure for doctors, nurses and patients. The indicators are more encouraging than in the same period last year, which shows the most committed duty and the fruits of the training sessions offered to specialists, PAMI’s members, for the life right of pregnant women and children.
