New tobacco varieties in San Antonio de los Baños

 

San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- Criollo 2010 and Burley 2010, including hybrids, are varieties of tobacco that are introduced by their results in the current tobacco campaign of the town.

Criollo variety is a male sterile hybrid of the Cuban black tobacco 2010 with commercial properties, resistant to black shank, to blue mold, environmental necrosis, with the effect of tropospheric ozone and tobacco mosaic virus and exhibits a potential agricultural yield of 2.2 tons per hectare. Unlike Havana 2000, Criollo 2010 performs well in any soil type including red, and is less demanding in cultivation.

The Burley 2010 variety is resistant to wilting leaf layer. Nitrogen irrigation will also increase to enhance yields with layer in the production of covered tobacco. It is also a variety of good yield potential (2250 kg / ha) and much valued by the buyers for the good characteristics of its leaves. Therefore, cultivation is recommended in all areas of Burley tobacco with problems with Fusarium and black shank. It is characterized by its small height, its leaves are green, unlike other varieties of Burley that have been cultivated in the country, which have a yellowish green color in the leaves.
