Medicinal plants: Perseverance and love



Medicinal plants are a natural therapeutic source. Its derivatives are gaining followers today thanks to the specialists and workers of  the Experimental Medicinal Plants Station in San Antonio de los Baños. Named as the eminent cuban botanist, Dr. Juan Tomas Roig, who excelled in the scientific study of natural sciences, specifically on the subject of medicinal plants.

About 50 professionals merge knowledge and hours of hard work, in order to fulfill the social mission to investigate the production of drugs from natural sources and completed forms for domestic and foreign consumption.

More than 13 hectares of "Leonardo" Farm - where the station is located, are used by the botanical experimentation center in the development of research programs for obtaining natural medicinal products that promote health and contribute to scientific work. It has more than 180 varieties, primarily intended to supply the demand of Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana provinces.

In the production area, it is guaranteed the quality of syrups, extracts of species to combat migraine tablets, and homeopathic drops. Dried products are also obtained from chamomile, plantain, lime, oregano, ginger and kidney tea, tinctures, pasiflora drops, marigold and rue, which are delivered to Local Production Centers.
The experimental station shows among the most notable productions, the watery extract of aloe, a solution used in the treatment of gastritis, due to its effective healing properties. Also, the center shows a wide collection of living plants, scientifically classified and sorted for educational and ornamental purposes, as well as specimen of Cuban and world flora.

Provide full attention to the development of natural and traditional medicine, as required by Guideline 158 of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution, is a priority of specialists, technicians and other workers at the Experimental Medicinal Plants Station, a labor collective that combine commitment and love, in the scientific and productive duty.
