Today is September 2nd Yolanda Pujols González´s birthday, actress and broadcaster. Wife of the renowned actor Salvador Wood and Patricio Wood´s mother, boasts among its many plaudits and awards the National Radio Award for Life and Work of Distinction for National Culture.
Yolanda Pujols Gonzalez is fom Santiago de Cuba, and as his sister Carmen, was an actress and first level broadcaster on Cuban radio and television. At 10 years she won the first prize at Teatro Oriente reciting, singing and dancing in a chorus. Since then she loves tables art.
With the creation of Drama Department at the Institute, was chosen by director Jose Maria Béjar to work as a young lady in the box school comedies. The director himself took her to his theater group.
Later she worked at CMKW, Radio Cadena Oriental, that enters in the artistic cast of this station. She won her first salary of 30 pesos for dramatic programming work, since Santiago was projected to the whole country. There she shared the stage with Marcial Avellaneda, Magaly Alou, Juan Carlos Romero, Enrique Almirante.
She and her sister Carmen were the first two presenters that had Santiago de Cuba . It was in a program called Air Watch, who led the prominent speaker Antonio Pera, in the mid- forties. It was a historic moment of the Cuban female speech.
When Amado Trinidad, the owner of the RHC Cadena Azul National radio station made a contest seeking new voices, Yolanda decided to try and came to the nation's capital. She was selected and given the opportunity to work on the popular novel of the time.
Since then she didn´t stopped doing radio during her working life. Her expertise is also revealed as jury at the National Festival of the Cuban Radio for more than 20 editions.
On television, after 1959 she worked in the spaces Horizons,Theatre and Adventures and is still remembered her performance as Grandma Francisca on the adventures of Henry of Lagardere, which starred Rogelio Blain.
Long after retiring, the people enjoyed her performance with her husband, Salvador Wood, at the soap opera by Mayté Vera "Lo que me queda por vivir". Everyone remembers that affable smile and the sweetness of her personality.
