The exhibition "Posada, an age profile", opened its doors on February 7th, in the Cuban Art Building of the National Museum of Fine Artes. The multifaceted exhibition presents the work of José Luis (El Gallego ) Posada Medio, Asturian that become an ariguanabense which arrived in 1940 to stay here.
Today will be his 85 birthday and maybe between us was surrounded by brushes and pens that made his works in heritage of Cuban culture, he was a great cartoonist and illustrator since childhood manifested a knack for drawing.
Posada was born in Villaviciosa, Asturias, on February 10th, 1929. In this village lived the pain of war and with his family crossed the Pyrenees on foot. Then he went to the Spanish Republican in 1939. His family moved to San Antonio de los Baños.
Although his training was purely self, had only one contact with an art school in 1952, when he travels to the Art Students League in New York, and then decides to devote himself in drawing, in which he left a vast and profound work.
As a witness of his time, worked equally personal caricature and thus shows the faces of a number of writers from the perspective of his penetrating gaze. Are sui generis cartoons, Baroque and somewhat tragic, worked with a high view of artistic development.
Throughout his career he has received numerous honors and awards. This February 10th, which reward the expo "Posada, an age profile", until March 31st. As always Gallego Posada surprised and rejoices us. Congratulations Gallego!
