Every country, every people, assayed essential men in our national history, Chileans have among others Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda and Salvador Allende, figures that exceed the borders of Chile.
Admiration for the first Socialist President elected by the ballot is maintained and grows over time, accounting for the poorer sectors and for the Chilean people, in general the driver and leader of the socialist ideology.
Respected leader since 1953 when it was re-elected senator from Tarapaca and Antofagasta, raised the popular hopes while the civil society experiencing the expansion of voting rights and the solidification of the political system, course further strengthened by the unification of the Socialist Party. All these events materialized achieved the extraordinary vote for the presidential nomination in 1958.
In 1961 he was again elected senator, this time for his native Valparaiso. A couple of years later, the National People's Congress proclaimed champion of popular aspirations, and assumed responsibility for the third time the presidential nomination.
Between 1966 and 1969, Allende would serve as chairman of the Senate, being re-elected last year for the constituency of Chiloe, Aysen and Magallanes.
He played a prominent role in the field of international politics by participating in the Tricontinental Conference, and later in the founding of the Latin American Solidarity Organization, an episode that added to his support for the guerrilla of Ernesto Che Guevara was put in the center of attacks on the right.
The historical and political basis of Allende's political strategy was the development of democracy, the strengthening of development and a new model of social democracy supported by the State.
One of the most significant expressions uttered by Allende, was:
"I can not never ever forget everything I've been and everything I am I owe to my party" was faithful to the oath. For a thousand days, would develop the experience of the Popular Unity.
A vast conspiracy, which took an active national and transnational capital, imperialism, the political forces of right and center and business associations and professionals, created the conditions that led to the armed forces to interrupt under blood and fire on September 11th, 1973 Chilean democracy.
In his last message to the people on Radio Magallanes, he said:
"Workers of my country: I have faith in Chile and its destiny. Other men will overcome the dark and bitter moment when treason seeks to prevail. Continue to know that, sooner rather than later, the great avenues will open where men pass free, to build a better society. Viva Chile, long live the people, live the workers"!
The Chileans are indebted to the fate of the nation and the leader who gave a history lesson to the world during the government years by having popular support against the dictatorship. Salvador Allende, is a major world level with Mistral or Neruda, has much to walk with the people at this time, the country struggles in the battle to reduce poverty, inequality, sections of the people demanding radical changes in favor of the country's political future and exclusion does not persist.
