Medical Sciences students in San Antonio de los Baños are involved in the discussion of their regulations, the exchange highlights the use of the uniform, medical ethics and working in professional training in education values and leadership in the community and in society. I talk to Rolando Estévez Mieres, second-year student and president of the organization.
How are students linked to the community?
University students are updated about the epidemiological situation of the territory, linked to the family doctor offices support the screening in the population, the presence of fever, diarrheal disease and others.
What other activities do they realize?
We formed within the premise of preventing, so in the neighborhoods do health promotion activities regarding risk modification in favor of promoting healthy lifestyles and to encourage systematic practice of physical exercises. Knowledge the population characteristics serve us to highlight health issues among which: hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking and alcohol consumption among others.
November 17th is the Student´s Day, they made multiple activities in the territory. The realization of Galenos Games in the different disciplines began the activities at municipality level, also with the aim of promoting reading, it is essential to encourage the habit of reading in the future health professionals, so from Monday to Thursday conducted the University Book Festival, the exhibition and sale of handicrafts and books selling, also enjoy the Adrian Berazaín Concert at Humboldt -7 High School Institute and the concert of David Blanco at Artemisa University.
What are the current challenges of the ariguanabense membership?
Among our paradigms are José Martí, Julio Antonio Mella and José Antonio Echeverría, inspired in their experience and dedication. We are moved by the sense of belonging and the desire to do since the doctor offices to provide medical services and assume the challenges of working in the student group the unconditionality. Also the influence on the population, educational activities about the importance of clinical analysis of traditional and alternative medicine also promote blood donation as an act altruistically for life.
The 201 students, grouped in different brigades of medicine careers, dentistry and other specialties participate in the pilgrimage to the Hospital, in homage to the eight medical students cruelly executed on November 27th, 1871. In the parade through the main streets will join the people, reaffirm the revolutionary principles and unconditional support to the Revolution.
