Cubans are patriots, the legitimacy of that feeling is in the revolutionary fervor tests contained in the pages of the history of a nation with over 100 years of struggle. We recently celebrated February 24 , anniversary that marks the vigor and fortitude of men who led the revolutionary reboot in 1895.
Carlos Manuel de Céspedes was one of those men of integrity. Lawyer by training and Cuban revolutionary by condition. Proclaimed on October 10th, 1868 , the independence of death and freedom for the slaves. Cespedes is considered by the Cuban as the Nation Father, was also Mayor General of the Libertador Cuba Army and first President of the Republic of Cuba in Arms.
To mark the appointment as President of the Republic in Arms on April 11, 1869 in Guáimaro, Cespedes said: True to his ideals, Cuba has contracted, in the act of starting the fight against the oppressor, the solemn commitment to consummate their independence or perish in the attempt: the act of giving a democratic government, to be republican. This dual commitment made before the independent America, before the liberal world, and what is more, to the conscience, means the resolution to be heroic and be virtuous. Cuban: with your story consummate heroism for independence. With your virtue to consolidate the Republic. Count you with my devotion.
The Nation Father died on February 27th, 1874, was one of the most unique players in the anti-colonial struggles, paradigm of independence and anti-imperialism as a precursor of the base sentiment of Cuban identity .
Great was Céspedes, by his feeling, intelligence, culture, great for heroism. As a parent we must venerate Cespedes since the immortality of men who never die.
