Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Cuban revolutionary Advocate, started the independence wars against Spain in Cuba, on October 10th, 1868. He is considered the Father of the Nation and was the first President of the Cuba Republic in Arms.
In early 1868, Carlos Manuel moves to wit La Demajagua because by the time it seemed that his main interest was to erect the building. She had a magnificent masonry house with large portals adorned with columns. It was built on a plateau from which the sea was visible. On one side the wit and the other the slave barracks stood.
On October 6th, 1868, in Rosario Ingenio, was elected commander in chief of the armed uprising, which was agreed to start on October 14th, 1868. La Demajagua bell called on Cubans to redemption.
Many had become his enemies, mainly members of the House and supporters of Miguel Aldama, general agent of the Republic in the United States, who wove a series of intrigues around him. Although Cespedes was timely informed about the conspiracy with the aim of replacing the presidency, he showed the sacrifice of his ideas to keep the unit when required. On October 27th, 1873, in San Lorenzo, dies in battle at the hands of the Spanish troops.
