With great happiness professional of the pen and the word in Cuba celebrated the Cuban Press Day, we are inspired by the example of Juan Gualberto Gómez, founder of Fraternidad newspaper in 1879, who rose in defense of black in Cuba and who remained faithful to José Martí´s thought till his death, also this March 14th, marks the 120 anniversary of Patria newspaper by José Martí .
On March 5th, 1933, died Juan Gualberto in Havana, is a symbol for Cubans for the honesty in journalism in favor of the needy and is considered one of the more consistent patriots with the independence principlesof Cuba. The significance of the life and work of this true son of Cuba is broadcast by the link with the main thinker of nineteenth-century in Cuba, José Martí, whom he met in late 1878 in Havana.
The Union of Cuba Journalists (UPEC), paid tribute to José Martí, the precursor of Patria newspaper, official organ of the Cuban Revolutionary Party (PRC), founded on March 14th, 1892. Juan Gualberto Gómez cooperates with the PRC and is known for being the person chosen by Martí to organize the preparations within the Island to Independence War.
The journalist and tireless fighter was born on July 12th, 1854, in Matanzas. He was fortunate to be born free as a result of the savings of their parents Fermin Gómez and Serafina Ferrer, domestic slaves at the time. Stands for his journalism, which developed under the pseudonym of "G" - and early twentieth century was a skillful fighter against Tomas Estrada Palma, the first President of the Republic, and the Platt Amendment, which turned Cuba into a U.S colony.
Also in the pages of Fraternidad was rebelled against the abuses and discrimination suffered by blacks and mulattos. He wrote about the lives and major concerns and worries had this part of the population throughout the island

It couldn´t be write the history of Cuba without putting up the work of Juan Gualberto Gómez, a senior separatist and journalist, who used the word art with intelligence and talent as a weapon against oppression that was placed on Cuba and in defense of his condition men.
Today´s challenge for men and women who make up the ranks of UPEC is to disseminate the truth, to speak in favor of social justice and equality for all men in the world, rejecting war and desires to continue adding to the cause of the Five Heroes Prisoners of the Empire, for an universal clamor for the return with their families and the Cuban people.
