He was born on September 8th, 1937, in San Antonio de los Baños, Havana. Published his first cartoon at 16 in the magazine "Páginas del Círculo" edited in his hometown. There also draws on the Speaker of the Official Association Student Body and the Official Gazette of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In the latter, does appear to "El Loquito" in cartoons.
In late 1956, while pursuing her third year of high school in Havana, began to collaborate in the weekly humorous Zig-Zag and in February 1957 the character appears "El Loquito" and starts a professional cartoon. In late 1957, opposition obtained by a cartoon in the newspaper Information, whose character called "Napo-Leon". This was of white humor with a more modern line.
In 1959, the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, began to draw for Revolution newspaper and working in most of the revolutionary press. Create the character of "Don Cizaño", representing the reactionary press (counterpart of "El Loquito)." From 1959 to 1967 he performed a political cartoon in the Daily National Television News. In 1961 he founded the weekly newspaper's humorous The Evening Pitirre. In 1965 the newspaper Revolution becomes the daily Granma, he worked many years as editorial cartoonist. Between 1968 and 1970 he worked as editor of the weekly humor P'lante.
He has created other characters such as the daily press "Mogollon", "Negative Companion", "Blandengo" and "Bearded", the latter, symbol of the Cuban people to defend the gains of the revolution, is precisely the logo of the International Biennial of Humor held in San Antonio de los Baños.
Among other distinctions won the National Journalism Award in 1960 Juan Gualberto Gómez, and Raúl Gómez García medal (1982). Walnut stands out as political satirist and manners, as well dabble in painting. He is internationally known for his cartoons. Has contributed to several national and international publications. His works have been exhibited in Mexico, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Finland, Canada, the Soviet Union, Poland, Germany, Bulgaria, Spain, Nicaragua and France. Results of international surveys include him among the hundred best cartoonists in the world.
