Every April 26th, Cuba celebrates the Intellectual Property World Day in order to stimulate innovation and creativity. This 2014 is dedicated to film, an universal passion. The promoted activities have implicit recognition to Charlie Chaplin and the popular character Charlot; the tramp, led to the birth of modern cinema.
Intellectual property preserves the interests of creators by giving them property rights over their creations. It has to do with the creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, symbols, names, images and designs used in commerce.
Copyright protects performers, the rights of producers in their recordings, and those of broadcasters on radio and television.
Meanwhile copyright applies to artistic creations such as poems, novels, musical works, paintings, films and computer programs.
The author has certain specific rights in relation to its creation, the right to prevent a distorted reproduction of it, a prerogative that belongs only to him, while there are other rights such as the right to make copies, for example, a publisher who has obtained a license from the author for this purpose. The copyright holder has the right to prevent anyone to access or make use of his property without his consent.
The intellectual property that gives each country are independent of each other, so that the same idea, invention, work or distinctiveness can be protected in a number of states, there are so many titles of protection as states that have granted. The day aims to pay tribute to the innovation and creativity, as well as the drive and incentive that provides intellectual property in addition to spread awareness about it.
The Intellectual Property World Day offers each year an unique opportunity for the meeting of all those interested in the subject, in order to identify, discuss and demonstrate how the governing system protects the intellectual property rights, contribute to the flowering of music and art and to encourage technological innovation in order to improve our world.
